Doing business on archeological sites
Housing complexes, roads, shopping malls, among others are being built on archeological remains…The National Institute of Anthropology and History (INAH) ends up endorsing most of the projects. Human burials and structures along other discoveries are ignored.
Mexico: 7 billion dollars spent to stop the currency devaluation, unsuccessfully
The government has spent over 7 billion dollars in order to defend the Mexican peso. This kind of action will not achieve to contain the exchange rate towards the dollar, which by September will exceed 17 pesos per dollar. Shortly the “convenience” of the devaluation will be declared.
Failed: The full-time schools of Mexico City
The program of full-time schools in the Federal District (Mexico City) has failed: the Chief Audit Office detected that out of 533 school campuses located in defined areas of “high” and “very high” degrees of marginality only 15 establishments were benefited; it detected the improper conclusion of agreements and contracts for 78, 805, 000 Mexican pesos and the delivery of over 4 million pesos to 47 directors and one supervisor lacking the supporting documentation.
Mexico: 149 extradited people in this Government
Alfredo Beltrán Leyva, Iván Velázquez –el Z-50- and César Meza García are some of the drug kingpins handed over to the US-American justice. Other Mexicans that ran the same luck were Lionel Portillo and Iván Soto, allegedly responsible of the murder of an agent of the Border Patrol; and Armando Albarrán, alleged assassin of a sheriff. Among the extradited people is also Manuel Ortíz Barraza, financial consultant pointed out for committing fraud against EximBank. From the administration of Ernesto Zedillo to this date 1,068 persons have been handed over to a foreign judicial system.
Nine companies hog 91% of the “subsidies” to commercialize corn
Over 549 million Mexican pesos are hogged by nine major companies that receive support by Aserca, a decentralized body of the Secretariat of Agriculture (Sagarpa), out of a total of 610 million pesos distributed between 48 companies responsible for the commercialization of corn.
